Yes, I'm young, but my values and roots are strong
Over the past two months, I’ve had the pleasure of knocking on the doors of over 1000 residents in Ward 3. I’ve had many great conversations & learned so much. As a university student, I’ve been asked if I’m old enough to be a Councillor. I understand the responsibility that comes with this role, I appreciate those concerns, & I want to address them here. With deep roots in Springwater, I have the experience, connections & ideas necessary to effectively represent you & your concerns.
My experience:
-
Public service experience — provincial government caseworker, helping constituents navigate government programs and social services
-
Financial experience — finance associate at an MPP office, overseeing the office budget and monthly expenditure tracking/reporting
-
Volunteer experience — 5+ yrs of dedicated volunteerism, including 2 yrs as Chair of the Midhurst Community Recreation Association, managing recreation facilities & events
-
Municipal experience — Selected as a Fellow at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, focusing on youth engagement in municipal government
-
Political experience — campaign manager & riding association board director
-
Advocacy experience — led a successful campaign to designate the Midhurst Community Hall a heritage property
-
Educational experience — studying public administration at York University
My ideas:
Smart budgeting
-
Eliminate County-Township service overlaps
-
Keep taxes low by leveraging non-tax revenue streams like development charges
-
Encourage business and volunteer partnerships
-
Negotiating agreements with neighbouring municipalities, like for reduced-rate parking in Barrie for Springwater residents
Strengthening communities
-
Rural infrastructure like road improvements, ditching, & internet services
-
Advocating for a new OPP station and more active enforcement
-
Making sure new developments respect farmland & environment
-
Supporting agriculture through lower taxation and incentives for agri-tourism
Listening to residents
-
Listening and discussing resident concerns and ideas
-
Frequent consultation, surveys & open dialogue
-
Regular updates via social media and councillor email newsletter
-
Work collaboratively with Council, staff, and stakeholders
