Access to fast, reliable internet is a necessity, but many people in Springwater are subject to slow speeds, high prices, and unreliable service. As a resident of the Gill Road area, I know first-hand the unsatisfactory nature of our internet service.

In reality, municipal governments don’t have the budget to build broadband without large tax increases. The strength of municipal governments is that we know the needs of our residents. We can advocate to internet service providers and other levels of government, and work with our community partners to deliver on those needs. To build better broadband, I would:

• Work with my contacts in the federal and provincial governments to secure funding, including through the Universal Broadband Fund and the ICON program

• Identify the most underserved areas and advocate to include them in these programs

• Continue the work of the Springwater Broadband Advisory Committee, and ask to be placed on that committee

• Investigate creative solutions to the internet problem and non-traditional methods of internet access
