About Me

DSC_0333.JPG

I'm your neighbour and I'm running to be your voice on Springwater Council.

I've lived here for almost my entire life and I have been actively working and volunteering to make our community a better place.

From spending my Thursday nights chairing local recreation board meetings to helping constituents navigate government services in my role with our local MPP's office, public and community service has always been a part of my life.

Now I want to take my efforts to a higher level and contribute in a bigger way as your Councillor. On this website you will find information on my experience, my ideas, and how you can contact me if you want to discuss your priorities.

Why I'm running:

Having had the pleasure of being involved in the Springwater community in so many ways, I'm eager to continue my involvement and contribute at a higher level as your Councillor. I believe Springwater needs a young, new voice on Council to bring unique ideas inspired by solid experience. I believe that we can restore respect to the council chamber, preserve our unique heritage, and make Springwater an even better place to live for all ages and for generations to come.

Chair of the Midhurst Community Recreation Association

As chair for nearly 2 years and a member for 4, I oversee Midhurst Autumnfest, holiday festivals, hall and rink operations, and work with the Township and residents on recreation policies and community projects.

What I've learned:

  • Effective governance that listens to all sides

  • Advocating for residents' priorities at the Township level

  • Importance of and respect for volunteers and community builders

Finance Associate and Caseworker at the office of Doug Downey, MPP

Since 2019, I've been working at our local MPP office as a caseworker, where I help constituents navigate provincial government services. I'm currently also working in the budgeting and finance space.

What I've learned:

  • The need to ensure productive use of taxpayers' money in the office budget

  • Compassion and diligence when working with clients, who are often seeking support

Youth Fellow at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO)

I served as one of AMO's Youth Fellows in 2022, a program that connects 3 select youth with councillors, mayors and staff to discuss youth engagement in municipal governments.

What I've learned:

  1. Youth bring new and fresh ideas to any discussion

  2. Youth engagement improves outcomes for youth and people of all ages

  3. Youth deserve to be represented and see themselves in their municipal leaders

Advocate for local heritage and community issues

I was formerly the editor of the Midhurst Newsletter, a historic community newspaper serving Midhurst since 1970. As a part of the MCRA, I spearheaded the publication of Memories of Midhurst, a book of Midhurst history and Springwater-themed poems by local students. I also led a campaign to designate the Midhurst Community Hall as a heritage property, protecting it as a focal point in our community.

What I've learned:

  • Our area has a unique heritage that should be preserved as we move into the future
